DILI, 03 september 2021 (TATOLI)– The Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to Timor-Leste, Andrew Jacobs, handed over essential support packages to the Secretary of State for Civil Protection (SSCP) at the SSCP office, Bebora Dili today.
The Packages including 500 kitchen sets, 500 hygiene parcels, and 2000 jerry cans.
This is a humanitarian donation made through the Austrian Red Cross and the European Union’s Civil Protection Mechanism that will assist the vulnerable families severely affected by the heavy rains across the country from 29 March to 4 April.
The Secretary State of Civil Protection, Joaquim Gusmão dos Reis Martins, extended deep appreciation to the EU and Australia for the donation provided to Timor-Leste: “this support is the helpful support provided by Australia and the European Union for people of East Timor who had been affected by the april 4 flush flood, that killed almost 42 people and removed the houses of 30,748 families,” said Joaquim.
At the same place the EU Ambassador to Timor-Leste, Mr. Andrew Jacobs, also extends his solidarity to the families of the victims affected by the flash flooding: “ the European Union is pleased to have been able to support Timor-Leste’s response to the floods disaster,” said Jacobs.
“Today I am very proud to hand over, on behalf of Austria and the EU’s Civil Protection Mechanism, a donation of essential packages to Civil Protection which targets families in need, especially in this extremely critical time of the spread of the Covid-19 in the territory. The European Union will continue to stand by and support the people of Timor-Leste”, he said.
