Ai Ba Futuru Awards certificates to the winners on Agroforestry

Dili, 27 september, (TATOLI)- Timor-Leste Ai Ba Futuru awarded the Agriculture certificates for the Winners of Agroforestry 2021.

According to the press release statements, This activity was organized as a form of appreciation to two young Timorese who had participated in the contest.

“The awards were awarded to two Timorese Cisio Reis Amaral and Jose Maria R Lopes, the winner will have the opportunities to travel  to Ai ba Futuru’s project areas  to learn more about sustainable agroforestry,” the statement said.

During one-week trip, they visited several sites supported by Ai ba Futuru, such as community nurseries in Viqueque, the demonstration plot at the Sentru Formasaun Agricola (CDC) in Baucau and a workshop a participatory land-use planning in Manatuto.

“We are very grateful to GIZ for organizing this event that has given us the opportunity to take part in a training and field visit for one week. Although the activity was only one week, it was very interesting and useful for me. I hope GIZ with Ai ba Futuru project will continue this activity in the future, because this is very useful for farmers in Timor-Leste”, said Cisio Reis Amaral one of the winner.

It is stated that, the Agroforestry contest was launched on July 15th and ended on August 12th over the facebook and Instragram of GIZ Timor-Leste’s.

“The public contestants were presented with the questions for a whole month and had to answer them correctly to win the competition,” it said.

The objectives was to inspire the work seeking youths, to promote personal and professional development, and to promote youth participation in the agroforestry.

The Ai ba Futuru Project is implemented in the four eastern municipalities of Timor-Leste (Baucau, Lautem, Manatuto and Viqueque), targeting 4,000 marginalised households in 40 selected Sucos. It will increase the area under agroforestry in Timor-Leste by 6,000 ha, planting a total of three million trees. Targeted participants benefit from increases in production, better employment opportunities and improved market access, thus generating higher income.
