Govt ministries agree to extend state of emergency for another 30 days

DILI, 20 october 2021 (TATOLI) – The government of Timor-Leste, through the regular meeting of the Council of Ministers (CoM) is once again extending the state of emergency for a further 30 days period due to the COVID-19 pandemic; however, this could be the final extension, as the cases had been dropped significantly in the recent weeks.

Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Fidelis Manuel Leite Magalhães said the Government through the Council of Ministries had decided to propose to the President of the Republic to extend the state of emergency for another 30 days.

“After hearing the presentation of the Integrated Crisis Management Center (SIJK) on the epidemiological situation of Covid-19 in Timor-Leste, the Council of Ministers had decided to propose to the President of the Republic to extend the state of emergency for another 30 days,” the Minister of Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Fidelis Leite Magalhães made the comments after the conclusion of the meeting of the Council of Ministers, at the Palace of the Government, in Dili, on wednesday.

The new state of emergency will be in place to avoid and neutralize the risks of SARS-CoV-2 spreading, thus protecting public health and the National Health System response capacity.

The extension of the state of emergency for a further 30 days period, between october 30th, 00:00 am, and november 28th, 11:59 pm.

Magalhães called on the population to get vaccinated to return the country to a new normal.

“We will celebrate several holidays within the month of november, including the All Souls Day, Santa Cruz Massacre, Proclamation of Independence Day, and so on. Thus, it is important for our population to get vaccinated to celebrate those important days freely,” said Magalhães.
