DILI, 16 november 2021 ( TATOLI) – The University of Timor Loro Sae (UNTL) holds a reflection between 15 – 16 november on the theme “Reflection Cycle: UNTL in Futuru” in the Embassy of Portugal in Dili.
The event aims to discuss the progress and challenges of UNTL and mark the 21st anniversary of UNTL.
“The future of UNTL is based on its vision and mission. We know that the University has been established for 21 years, and we have had many signs of progress and challenges since then, “The University Rector, João Soares Martins told a reporter at the Embassy of Portugal, Dili today.
Martins said, the University has produced 17,000 graduates and of the number, many have been working in the state institutions and private sectors.
“We have already produced more than 17,000 graduates, more than 100 masters and postgraduates have completed their studies and now they already worked in the Government and private sectors, this is the progress that our university had, while In terms of challenges We are concerned about the lack of infrastructure related to the classrooms, laboratory and library”.
To exceed the challenges UNTL will review the Strategic Plan between 2021 and 2030 based on the Strategic Plan for National Development (PEDN) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Ambassador of Portugal José Pedro Machado Viera said that UNTL intimate partner in the teaching of the Portuguese language in Timor – Leste. UNTL has a Portuguese Language department, as it has a very strong connection with Portugal.
“We are very pleased to participate in this dialogue. We hope that all of the ideas will give constructive ideas for the future of UNTL,” Said Ambassador Vieira.
Viera also recalled that the dissemination of the Portuguese language at UNTL is not the only cooperation project between the Portuguese and Timor – Leste’s governments, but there are other bilateral projects example, the CAFE schools, Language consultancy for journalists, training in the military area and the supervision of Public Finance.
The UNTL was established on 17 November in 2000 and had produced 17,000 graduations of students from bachelor degrees, 149 postgraduate, and 163 master’s degrees.
UNTL has nine faculties with 40 departments.
