Lu Olo to preside over commemoration of 46th anniversary of proclamation of Independence Day

DILI, 22 november 2022 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic, Francisco Guterres ‘Lu Olo’ will preside over the commemoration of the 46th anniversary of the Proclamation of Independence Day.

The official ceremony to commemorate the 46th anniversary of the Proclamation of the Independence of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste will take place on november 28 in Baucau municipality.

“On november 28, the official ceremony of the Proclamation of Independence Day will begin with the Raising of the National Flag in Darsula, Baucau, in the presence of the President of the Republic, Francisco Guterres Lú Olo,” the Minister of State Administration (MoSA), Miguel Pereira de Carvalho made the comments after having a meeting with the President of the Republic, Francisco Guterres Lu Olo at the Palace of the President, in Dili, today.

There would be a minute of silence, followed by the decoration of the 50 combatants and veterans of the National Liberation by the President of the Republic. The ceremony would be ended at around 4pm, after the Lowering of the National Flag, in the presence of the President of the National Parliament, Aniceto Longuinhos Guterres Lopes.

To commemorate the anniversary, MoSA had organizes communities sports competitions in the 12 municipalities, including RAEOA.

“Today (22/11), the Ministry of Tourism, Trade, and Industry (MoTTI) is going to organize a fair in Darsula, Baucau. On November 27, there would be a Thanksgiving Mass followed by laying the flowers at the Grave of Heroes in Fatumaca, in Gariuai village. Whereas at night time, there would be a musical concert,” Carvalho said.

The theme for the commemoration of the 46th anniversary of the Proclamation of Independence Day is “Unite to fight for a Victory for all.”

Carvalho said the theme was chosen to promote unity among the Timorese people to have a national victory over the Covid-19.

“Timor-Leste’s National Weather Forecast had revealed that Timor-Leste will face La Niña in the future. Therefore, unity and a joint force would lead us to win this natural disaster in the future,” Carvalho added.

The government of Timor-Leste had allocated more than US$400.000 for the commemoration of the 46th anniversary of the Proclamation of Independence Day.
