DILI, 13 december 2021, (TATOLI)– Cooperativa Café Timor (CCT) has exported 2,80.5 tons of Arabica coffee to four countries this year.
“We exported 2,805 tons of Arabica coffee to Australia, Canada, the United States, and New Zealand,” CCT manager Adelino do Carmo told Tatoli at his CCT Bidau Dili office.
Carmo said that before exporting Arabica coffee, the cooperative conducted laboratory tests on samples to ensure the quality of the coffee.
Carmo also highlighted that CCT started exporting, in July this year, with the cooperation of 23,000 farmers from six municipalities – Aileu, Ainaro, Ermera, Liquica, Bobonaro.
Next week, CCT will export ten more containers of coffee to close the export year. The President of the Timor Coffee Association (ACT), Evangelino Monteiro Soares, previously said that this year the association is working with partner Número Uno from Australia to conduct trials on Arabica coffee to ensure its quality for export.
“There are three types of Arabica coffee: washed and natural honey. Número Uno’s partner has conducted tests (on this type of coffee) in Australia.
The results are positive in terms of quality, so it is easier to export,” he told Tatoli, in Fatuhada. The official highlighted that Timor Global companies, Alter Trae Timor, Cooperativa Café Timor, among others, have exported this type of coffee.
Evangelino Soares also said that the coffee trial also aims to motivate producers to improve the quality of domestic products.
The tests were carried out with the support of the embassies of China, Australia, and Portugal, among others.
