MMT and Scoops agree to promote sustainability for rural women in multi-cooperative groups

DILI, may 26 2022, (TATOLI)- Marry Mackillop Today (MMT) and Secretary of State for Cooperative (Secoops) agrees to promote sustainability for rural women’s multi-cooperative groups.

Country Director of MMT, Alipio Baltazar said MMT and SEcoops agree to support cooperatives groups for future sustainability that focused on providing capacity building referring to rural women cooperative groups.

“The agreement signed today will obtain the support from SEcoops for the capacity building women groups in the rural area across the country,’’ Country Director of MMT, Alipio Baltazar told reports at Becora, this wednesday.

The capacity building will enhance the knowledge of business and financial management before transforming into Cooperative groups.

“Since 2021, MMT has established 28 agriculture women groups address to the CU BEHAFU program. It is known that the CU BEHAFU program has accommodated 76 agriculture groups, and had 665 members. While 28 groups have been transformed 6 groups into cooperative groups,” He said

In the same place, he said, these groups can be transformed into Credit unions or agriculture Production cooperatives groups.

“The remaining group will be monitored by the MMT regarding the management and cooperative administration as well as reports,”

Mr. Baltazar at the same place extended his appreciation to the government for providing financial support to the group worth 2.500 USD.

General Director of Scoops, Francisco Xavier said Scoops is pleased to cooperate with international NGOs to provide capacity building for cooperative members.

“Scoops is committed to promoting rural women group by offered various training, We help to transform group to cooperative group,” He added

Mr. Xavier stated that Scoops has achieved 1% of implementing the cooperation program.
