DILI, 07 june 2022 (TATOLI)– The Ambassador of the European Union (EU) in Timor – Leste, Andrew Jacobs informed that this year the EU will provide $134 million to support priority programs of the Government and the private sector in Timor – Leste.
“The EU is a committed partner to support $134 million to the government of Timor-Leste including the private sector to run a total of 34 programs in Timor-Leste, for this year” EU Ambassador Andrew Jacobs told TATOLI after meeting with the Timor-Leste Development Partners (TLPM) at the office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MoFAC), Dili this Tuesday.
The funds provided will be used for priority programs that focused on Green and sustainable economic recovery and development to promote mutually beneficial cooperation.
“We will continue to provide financial support to promote green and sustainable economic recovery and development as well as Good Governance for sustainable development, which is implemented in various sectors, agriculture, economy, development of the private sector, greenwoods or plantation, etc,”
In addition, EU Ambassador emphasized that the European Union is the largest financial donor and has been a trusted partner of Timor – Leste for the past two decades based on the shared values of democracy human rights, and the rule of law, therefore Eu will continue to support the diversification of Timor – Leste’s economy for the welfare of the people and the country.

Previously on February 3, 2021, Timor-Leste’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Adaljiza Magno, and the European Union (EU) Ambassador, Andrew Jacob officially launched the EU Multiannual Indicative Programme for Timor-Leste for 2021-2027.
With the new strategic document, the EU commits to provide support for the priorities defined in consultation with the Timor-Leste authorities, including Economic development and prosperity in Timor-Leste, Improved democratic structures and inclusive societies to ensure peace and stability, Effective climate action, and the implementation of Agenda 2030, Better connectivity, Regional integration, and other programs.
The new program has two main priorities: Priority 1 – Green and sustainable economic recovery and development; Priority 2 – Good governance for sustainable development. In the first phase, from 2021 to 2024, the EU will dedicate a contribution of EUR 55 million (approximately USD 61 million). The financial allocation for 2025-2027 will be determined following a mid-term review in 2024.
At the time of the launching of the multiannual indicative program, Ambassador Jacobs highlighted the EU commitment to support Timor-Leste for green and sustainable economic recovery and development (a “Green Deal”) and good governance for sustainable development.
“I am particularly pleased that we intensify support to Timor-Leste in the diversification of the economy, and in its efforts at regional economic integration, including preparations for possible ASEAN accession.”
While on the other hand Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Adaljiza Magno congratulates the EU as the first development partner in Timor-Leste that is at the forefront of supporting Timor-Leste and implementing the principles of “Country Own, Country Lead, and Use Country System.
