DILI, 14 june 2022 (TATOLI)- Minister of Oil and Minerals, Vitor da Conceição Soares on behalf of the Prime Minister of Timor-Leste, Taur Matan Ruak officially opened the country’s 4th most important international Energy and Mining Summit organized by the Ministry of Oil and Minerals Timor-Leste (ANPM) and Australian Santos Ltd, today in the city of 8 Dili.
Speaking at the summit, Minister Soares said this international summit is very important to strengthen cooperation with international oil and gas companies, saying, therefore, it is a very honorable time to welcome all international partners to this summit.
“I present today as the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral and as the Representative of Prime Minister of Timor-Leste, in this summit. I am pleased to have this opportunity to bring together national and international companies to share information on oil and gas update issues in Timor-Leste,” said Soares in his remarks at the 4th Timor-Leste Energy and Mining Summit, held at City-8, in Dili, today.
Soares said it was important for Timor-Leste to introduce its natural resources to international partners, especially focusing on oil and gas resources: “Timor-Leste’s oil and gas is important and has been a major resource for the last 17 and 18 years. Therefore, the Summit is very important to contemplate Timor-Leste’s oil and gas as a very fundamental resource in Timor-Leste,”
“The leadership in the 8th Constitutional Government and I strongly support all the initiatives, innovations, and creativity undertaken by the respective agency under my supervision, TIMOR GAP, IPG, and VIPI. The leadership’s commitment has also been contemplated in recent activities, by drilling the Bayu undang well and onshore drilling, “
Soares considers oil and gas to be an important sector that can attract more investors: ” Timor-Leste mining code was passed last year and the code has entered into force since the beginning of this year, this is another pivotal sector for the country’s development, we hope we will attract more investor in the country;”
“The 8th Constitutional Government is trying its best to restore and recover the economy through economic diversification and activities in oil, gas, and mining as well as tourism just to emphasize that since most of the delegates are from neighboring countries, we want to assure you that tourism is another fundamental sector that requires special attention, we are working to bring more not only investors but also tourists in the country.”
At the same time, the President of the National Oil and Mineral Authority, Florentino Soares Ferreira, said this meeting was a good opportunity to introduce 15 new onshore and offshore projects, saying this initiative also focused on oil and gas drilling projects in Bayu Udang field.
” It is very important to require partnerships with international companies to be implementing oil and gas exploration projects. We expect that the consortium is for oil exploration and it should be done,”
Ferreira said the project will focus fundamentally on collaboration between countries to work on a legacy oil and gas framework and it requires rules to ensure the exploration of new oil wells: “Focused on wells in the Bayu Undan,”
The event was attended by several International and National Oil and Gas Companies consisting of Oil and Gas companies SANTOS, TIMOR GAP, Woodside Company, BGP (CNPC Geophysics Company), Beacon Mineral Minerals Limited, Schlumberger, Bluewater, Similie, ETO, Timor-Leste Chamber of Commerce. Leste and Tradeinvest Timor-Leste.
