DILI, 30 july 2022 (TATOLI) – The Minister and Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries (MAF), Pedro Reis and Abílio Xavier de Araújo, and the Secretary of State for Fisheries, Elídio de Araújo, met with the President of the Republic (PR), José Ramos Horta, to discuss the coordination plan for the rehabilitation of coffee plantations.
“Today we met with the Head of State to coordinate the work on the rehabilitation plan for coffee plantations in Aileu and Ainaro, which will take place on August 4,” said Pedro Reis, at the Presidential Palace.
Reis said that the coffee revitalization plan and subsidies, specifically for Civet coffee (Lakuten), were budgeted at US$6.4 million, saying, therefore, the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MAF) has revitalized two thousand hectares of coffee plantations.
In addition, in collaboration with partners from the Timor Coffee Association (ACT) and the Timor Coffee Cooperative (CCT), the rejuvenation of around eight thousand hectares of coffee plantations was also implemented.
According to a data report from MAF, Timor-Leste has 59,921 hectares of coffee plantations, of which only about 2,000 hectares are productive.
