DILI, 19 october 2022 ( TATOLI) – Council of Ministers approved the draft regulation proposed by the Cabinet of Prime Ministers regarding the measures to protect Timor – Leste citizens overseas.
“Today the Council of Ministers approved the Government regulation draft submitted by the Prime Minister’s Cabinet regarding the measures to protect Timor – Leste citizens overseas. This provides an opportunity for the Government to legally allocate resources to assist Timor – Leste citizens who are facing the problems. ” said the Minister of Presidential and Parliamentary Affairs, Fidelis Magalhaes at the Palace Government, Dili on wednesday.
Fidelis also said that the draft regulates several actions of Timorese citizens abroad and defines the rules, such as;
1. Assisting in the event of a natural disaster or serious disturbance to public order
2. Repatriation of citizens from abroad
3. Emergency support for accommodation
4. Emergency food aid
5. Support in cases of arrest or detention.
The draft also stated that the government will not have to respond to the challenges faced by Timorese citizens overseas if it is not regulated.
