Three pre-electoral coalitions formed to compete in upcoming general elections

DILI, 06 march 2023 (TATOLI) – Three pre-electoral coalitions have been formed to compete in the upcoming parliamentary elections to be held on may 21, 2023. 

The three pre-electoral coalitions included the Broad Democratic Front (FAD), which brings together four small political parties; Timorese Democratic Union (UDT), Frente Mundança (FM), the Timorese Social Democratic Action Center (CASDT) and the National Development Party (PDN), the Democratic Alliance (DA) formed by three other small parties; National Democratic Alliance (NDA), People’s Development Party (PDP) and Aileba People’s Liberation Party (PLPA), and another coalition formed by the Democratic Party of the Republic of Timor (PDRT), and the People’s Alliance of the Timorese Monarchy (AMPT). 

The President of the National Elections Commission (CNE), José Agostinho Belo, revealed that the Court of Appeal has already registered the three pre-electoral coalitions to compete in the upcoming general elections. 

“The three coalitions have already presented their coalition to run in the upcoming elections. They are the Broad Democratic Front (FAD, Democratic Alliance (DA) and another coalition made up of the PDRT), and AMPT.

According to the electoral calendar for the parliamentary elections, the timetable for pre-election coalition formation ended on sunday (03/05). 

Earlier, the Court of Appeals revealed that about 25 political parties are eligible to run in the elections.
