The agreement was signed following a meeting between the CI-TL delegation team and CI-TL during the celebration of HWPL’s 9th anniversary in South Korea on 1 august.
The capacity building and training of peace journalism will be carried out in 2024.
The CI-TL Chairman, Otelio Ote said that the capacity building program is important to improve the capabilities of Timorese journalists: “We are grateful to the HWPL delegation team for coming to sign the agreement with CITL.”
He said that capacity building and training in peace journalism is important for Timorese journalists to promote peace and stability through their stories.
HWPL is committed to supporting CI-TL with the preparation of the peace journalism training manual.
According to Professor Steven Youngblood, the founder of the Center for Global Peace Journalism, said that: “Peace journalism is when editors and reporters make choices that improve the prospects for peace in whatever story they are working on. These choices, including how to frame stories and carefully choose which words are used, create an atmosphere conducive to peace and supportive of peace initiatives and peacemakers, without compromising the basic principles of good journalism.”
