DILI, 23 january 2024 (TATOLI) – The National Parliament unanimously approved a Vote of Condolences on the death of the Minister of Justice, Amândio de Sá Benevides.
The House Speaker, Fernanda Lay said that the Condolences and Tribute votes were approved by the National Parliament with 60 votes in favor, zero abstentions, and zero against.
She said that this vote was intended to express the deepest condolences to the bereaved family.
The President of the FRETILIN bench, Aniceto Guterres, praised Amândio de Sá Benevides’ significant contribution to legal development and the promotion of human rights in the country since 2000.
Cedelizia dos Santos, on behalf of the CNRT, also expressed her condolences to Amândio de Sá Benevides’ family, emphasizing that the country had lost “a great professional”.
Amândio de Sá Benevides, born on 16 july 1964 in Ainaro, stood out as a lawyer who actively contributed to the establishment of the Timorese judicial system. Minister Benevides, 59. died of a heart attack on Saturday (20/01).
