DILI, 19 february 2021(TATOLI) – The Government has decided to propose to the President of the Republic, Francisco Guterres Lú Olo, the renewal of the state of emergency, for another thirty days.
“Due to the seriousness of the epidemiological situation and the exponential increase in the number of active cases, both locally and globally, the Council of Ministers decided to propose to the president to extend the state of emergency period,” The President for the Council of Minister, Fidélis Magalhães, told the journalists at the Palacio do Governo Dili.
According to Magalhães, the Government’s objective regarding the renewal of the state of emergency is to avoid a possible transmission of covid-19 also to protect the public health as well as respond to the National Health System.
“The Government thus proposes to the President for the renewal the state of emergency in order to maintain the suspension and restriction of some fundamental rights,” he said.
