DILI, 06 july 2024 (TATOLI) – Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Bendito dos Santos Freitas, representing the Head of State, José Ramos-Horta, visited the headquarters of the Center for Strategic Analysis of CPLP (CAE-CPLP), in Maputo, Mozambique.
The visit is also part of the agenda of the state visit of the President of the Republic, José Ramos-Horta, to Mozambique, where he was received directly by the Director of the CAE-CPLP, Colonel Armindo Alcides Garcia Sá Miranda Nogueira and the structure.
During the visit, the Director of the CAE-CPLP, Colonel Armindo Alcides Garcia Sá Miranda Nogueira, presented to Minister Bendito Freitas the progress of the CAE/CPLP work, and expressed the appreciation of the CPLP member states for Timor-Leste’s active participation in the CAE-CPLP.
Minister Bendito Freitas said, the CAE/CPLP organization was established in 1996 in the context of the CPLP, which aims to conduct analysis and research in the area of defense and security and also establish cooperation between CPLP member countries in these two sectors.
In addition to analysis and research in these two areas, CAE-CPLP also scheduling, structuring and operationalization to provide ideas and present concepts on strategic issues.
Every year CPLP member states are obliged to contribute $ 6 thousand to CAE-CPLP, to finance operationalization services, especially to conduct research and analysis for the defense and security sector.
Mozambique is a recipient country that offers infrastructure and logistical facilities as well as technical staff to operationalize CAE-CPLP activities.
The Head of Diplomacy added that the Minister of Defense and the F-FDTL Command already have a thorough knowledge of CAE-CPLP cooperation, therefore, they need to work together to better prepare themselves when Timor-Leste receives rotating presidency to lead the CAE-CPLP organization in the future.
In addition, the visit was also accompanied by the Director-General for Affairs, Africa, Europe, America and the Middle East, Francisco Dionísio Fernandes ‘Mau-kura’, First Secretary of the Embassy of Timor-Leste to Mozambique, Lenilde Pereira and others.
