DILI, 27 March 2025 (TATOLI) –As part of the commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the National Police of Timor-Leste (PNTL), the President of the Republic, José Ramos-Horta, decorated the Chief of the Indonesian National Police, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo; the Commander General of the National Republican Guard of Portugal, Lieutenant General Rui Veloso; and the Commissioner of the Australian Federal Police, Reece Kershaw, with the Insignia of the Order of Timor-Leste.
According to a presidential source, the decoration was awarded by decree of the President of the Republic, signed on March 18, in recognition of their substantial support and contributions to Timor-Leste.
The Medal of the Order of Timor-Leste was presented by Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão, representing the Head of State, at the Government Palace in Dili.
Ramos-Horta emphasized the importance of international cooperation, noting that the services provided by “foreign friends” in the context of inter-state relations are crucial.
“Their efforts not only promote friendship between peoples but also contribute significantly to peace, national stability, and the country’s development,” said Ramos-Horta.
The same source stated that General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has held important positions in criminal investigation and strategic planning within the Indonesian National Police.
Lieutenant General Rui Veloso has extensive experience in internal security, criminal phenomena, and crisis management. He has served in various operational units and is recognized as an expert in military and security operations.
Commissioner Reece Kershaw, with more than three decades of experience, was appointed the 8th Commissioner of the Australian Federal Police in October 2019. His career spans several roles in criminal investigations and serious organized crime, including international deployments to Timor-Leste, the Netherlands, and the Solomon Islands.
