DILI, 23 May 2025 (TATOLI) – The United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has extended his congratulations to Timor-Leste on the occasion of the 23rd anniversary of the restoration of its independence, celebrated on May 20.
President José Ramos-Horta shared a letter on Facebook from UN Secretary-General António Guterres, who offered warm greetings on Timor-Leste’s National Day and said the occasion is a time to reflect on global challenges.
The letter highlighted the growing challenges facing the international community—including the climate crisis, conflicts, and rising inequalities—which demand multilateral solutions.
He said it was in this spirit that the UN adopted the ‘Pact for the Future’ last year—an initiative aimed at strengthening multilateralism and advancing peace, sustainable development, and human rights for all.
