DILI, 30 May 2025 (TATOLI) – The family members of Filipino fugitive Arnolfo Teves have been granted legal permission to reside in Timor-Leste, Interior Minister Francisco Guterres has said.

Minister Guterres said Teves family members currently residing in Timor-Leste will not be subject to the government deportation order, as they hold valid passports.

“They hold valid passports with valid residence visas,” Interior Minister Guterres said, adding, “Therefore, they are allowed to reside in Timor-Leste,” Guterres told TATOLI, in Dili, on Friday.

Since they hold valid residence visas, Teves’ family members are legally authorized to remain in Timor-Leste.

Teves was rearrested on May 27, 2025, by Timor-Leste’s Authorities in his residence in Areia Branca, Dili.

He was deported on Thursday, 29 May, by administrative decision of the Ministry of the Interior of Timor-Leste.

Teves faces several criminal charges in the Philippines, including 13 counts of murder, 13 counts of frustrated murder, and 4 counts of attempted murder, related to crimes committed between 2019 and 2023, including the murder of the then Governor of Negros Oriental, Roel Degamo.
