DILI, 02 July 2025 (TATOLI) – The Contract for Construction Works under the JICA Project for the Improvement of Guido Valadares National Hospital (HNGV) was successfully signed between the Ministry of Health and Wakachiku Construction Co., Ltd. at the signing ceremony held in Tokyo, Japan on June 27.
Élia A. A. dos Reis Amaral, Minister of Health, Valentino Lisboa Marçal Director General of Corporate Services, Ministry of Health, signed the contract, witnessed by Celio Moniz Da Silva, Counsellor, the Embassy of Timor-Leste in Japan, and Adelia Maria Moniz Barreto, Director General for Health Project Management Unit, Ministry of Health.
The project includes the construction of a 4-floor new building for outpatient department, operating theaters, the Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD), the Labor and Delivery Department, and the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department, as well as the provision of related medical equipment.
“The new building will be connected to the new Pediatric and ICU building that is currently under construction by the Ministry of Health, to further improve efficiency and patient safety in emergency medical services,” said in a statement.
The construction project will commence in August 2025 and will be completed in April 2027.
It’s recalled that the Grant Agreement of the Project for the Improvement of Guido Valadares National Hospital (HNGV)” was signed between the Minister of Finance and the JICA Chief Representative on 20 August 2024, to provide grant aid of up to 3.093 billion yen (approximately US$20 million).
