DILI, 22 July 2025 (TATOLI) — Timor-Leste’s men’s beach volleyball team has advanced to the semifinals of the 12th CPLP Games after a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Mozambique.
The third-day match ended with scores of 21–14, 13–21, and 21–12 in favor of Timor-Leste. The national team was represented by Noe Siqueira and Felizberto Faria, while Mozambique fielded Mauricio José and Arnaldo Nhantumbo.
Timor-Leste took control early, winning the first set 21–14. Mozambique responded strongly in the second, leveling the match with a 21–13 win. However, Timor-Leste’s side regained momentum in the final set, sealing the match 21–12 to book their place in the semifinals.
“We’ve now won two matches—yesterday against Angola 2–0, and today over Mozambique 2–1. We’re thrilled to top the group and move forward,” said Noe Siqueira following the match at Bidau-Lesidere. “This victory wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible support we received throughout the tournament.”
Siqueira also expressed confidence that all of Timor-Leste’s beach volleyball teams—men’s, women’s, and mixed—have strong chances of medaling. “I’m confident we can win medals in all categories. We’re working to sharpen our cutting, serving, passing, technical, and tactical skills ahead of the semifinal.”
Mario Bento Soares, coach and coordinator of Timor-Leste’s beach volleyball program, commended the players’ performances and resilience. “We lost on the first day, but it was a valuable learning experience—especially for the coaches—to refine our tactical approach,” he said. “Today, both our women’s and men’s teams won and will compete in the semifinals tomorrow.”
The match was also attended by President of the Republic, José Ramos-Horta, who showed his support for the national teams competing in the CPLP Games.
