President Horta and Prime Minister Gusmão Align Vision On Infrastructure Governance

DILI, 25 July 2025 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic, Jose Ramos Horta, met this Thursday with Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão at the Presidential Palace for their weekly meeting, during which they discussed priority national and international matters.

The Prime Minister informed the Head of State about his recent diplomatic engagements in China and Singapore, highlighting the ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation.

Both leaders reiterated the importance of these international partnerships for the development and global projection of Timor-Leste.

One of the central topics of the meeting was the mutual commitment to improving governance and public administration.

President Horta expressed his full support for the Prime Minister’s initiative to send official delegations to Singapore for professional development and comparative studies.

The President further stressed that such programs are crucial for overcoming superficial criticism and enabling the implementation of practical solutions, contributing to the strengthening of the technical and professional capacity of the country’s public service.

On the domestic front, the two leaders addressed the urgent need to accelerate the development of basic infrastructure.

The President reiterated his full support for the Government’s focus on expanding access to electricity, clean water, and quality roads for all citizens.

The Prime Minister confirmed that closing the gaps in essential services is an absolute priority, thus demonstrating a strong alignment between the Head of State and the Head of Government regarding the fundamental pillars of national progress.
