DILI, 07 August 2025 (TATOLI) — Timor-Leste will host an international peace seminar in August 2026, bringing together Nobel Peace Prize laureates from around the world.
Spearheaded by President Jose Ramos-Horta, the event aims to reinforce Timor-Leste’s commitment to global peace and dialogue.
The initiative builds on the success of previous international forums and aims to consolidate the country’s role as a center for peaceful dialogue.
President Ramos-Horta, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate himself, will personally invite fellow Nobel winners, using his global influence to attract leading voices in peacebuilding, science, and human rights to the country.
During a productive meeting on Wednesday at the Presidential Palace, President Ramos-Horta assigned the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Culture, José Honório, to lead the preparations for the high-profile seminar.
This landmark seminar will be the result of a collaboration between the Presidency of the Republic and the Government, with the Civil House working in close coordination with Minister José Honório’s team to ensure its success.
A formal commission will be established, tasked with coordinating the logistical preparations for the 2026 event.
The event will be one of the cornerstones of the President’s vision to position Timor-Leste as a proactive contributor to peace and understanding on the international stage.
By bringing together experts in science, peace, and human rights, the seminar will address pressing global issues while also highlighting Timor-Leste’s unique journey and its enduring dedication to the principles of the Nobel Peace Prize.
