DILI, 03 September 2025 (TATOLI) — Timor-Leste’s National Parliament on Wednesday approved President José Ramos-Horta’s upcoming state visit to Ukraine.
The visit, scheduled for September 10–11, 2025, will take place in Kyiv, where President Horta will attend an international conference themed “Education Shaping the World.” The approval passed with nine votes in favor and no abstentions.
“Parliament has approved the President’s state visit to Ukraine,” Alexandrino Afonso Nunes, Second Vice Speaker of the House, said on Wednesday.
The international conferences in Kyiv throughout 2025 will cover a wide range of topics, including economics, science, and technology. President Horta’s participation is expected to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Timor-Leste and Ukraine.
In addition to the visit to Ukraine, President Horta will make a private visit to Indonesia from September 6–7, at the invitation of Dino Patti Djalal, founder and president of the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI). He will participate in the ASEAN for the People Conference (AFPC) in Jakarta.
As a result, the Head of State will be outside Timor-Leste from September 5 to 13, for a total of eight days.
