DILI, 28 November 2025 (TATOLI) – In a significant gesture during the official ceremony commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Unilateral Proclamation of Independence of Timor-Leste held at the Government Palace, President and Nobel Peace Laureate, Jose Ramos-Horta bestowed the Collar of the Order of Timor-Leste to Admiral António Manuel Fernandes da Silva Ribeiro, Former Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Portuguese Republic.
The prestigious award was conferred under the Decree of the President of The Republic No.83 /2025, in recognition of Admiral Ribeiro’s exceptional and long-standing service to Timor-Leste. The decree highlights his profound contributions to strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation between the peoples of Timor-Leste and Portugal, which have been fundamental to peace, national stability, and the development of the nation.
“The services rendered by Admiral António Manuel Fernandes da Silva Ribeiro have benefited many Timorese over the years, and it is right that they are recognized and valued by the State. His efforts stand as a testament to the enduring friendship between our nations,” stated President Ramos-Horta.
The Order of Timor-Leste is the nation’s highest honor, bestowed upon individuals who have rendered exceptional and meritorious services to the country.
The award to Admiral António Manuel Fernandes da Silva Ribeiro reflects the deep respect and gratitude of the people of Timor-Leste for his dedicated efforts, which have left a lasting, positive impact on the country.
