DILI, 27 November 2025 (TATOLI) – Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão has expressed deep sorrow and solidarity following the devastating fire in Hong Kong that claimed multiple lives and left others missing.
Gusmão described the incident as “a tragic and heartbreaking event,” noting that the thoughts of the Timorese people are with the families and friends of the victims.
He said the Government of Timor-Leste stands with those who are still searching for loved ones and grieving their loss.
The Prime Minister also paid tribute to the “extraordinary bravery” of firefighters, first responders, and all personnel involved in the ongoing rescue and recovery operations.
Gusmão conveyed condolences on behalf of the Government and people of Timor-Leste, affirming the nation’s solidarity with the people of China during what he called “this terrible time.”
The death toll from the massive blaze that swept through multiple high-rise buildings in Hong Kong has risen to 146, Hong Kong police said on Sunday.
