DILI, 24 december 2025 (TATOLI) – The National Petroleum Authority (ANP), in collaboration with oil company Santos, has donated an incinerator to Timor-Leste’s Ministry of State Administration (MAE) to enhance the country’s waste management capabilities.
The handover took place on Tuesday at Tíbar Bay Port, with the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Francisco Monteiro, and the Minister of State Administration, Tomás Cabral, attending the ceremony.
The donation is part of the petroleum sector’s local content commitments under the Bayu-Undan Production Sharing Contract, signed by ANP and Santos in 2023. It also forms a component of the budget plan for the Bayu-Undan Decommissioning Project.
José Lobato, Santos’ representative, said the initiative is aimed at benefiting the public, particularly by improving waste management services in the municipality of Díli.
He noted that the incinerator had been previously used in the Bayu-Undan decommissioning process but was no longer needed, as the floating storage unit remains in good condition and has been sold to an international buyer.
Gualdino da Silva, President of ANP, thanked Santos and the Bayu-Undan consortium for their cooperation throughout the extensive negotiation process, which ultimately led to the donation of the equipment, valued at around $1.3 million.
