DILI, 08 january 2026 (TATOLI) — Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão has confirmed that the government is preparing for an official visit by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, scheduled for 28 january 2026.
The confirmation came after Xanana’s first official meeting of the year with President José Ramos-Horta at the Presidential Palace in Bairro Pite, Dili, on Thursday.
Speaking to journalists, the Prime Minister said the upcoming visit was discussed during the meeting and stressed the need for coordinated preparations.
“We discussed the upcoming visit of the Australian Prime Minister to Timor-Leste, and preparations are being made to welcome him,” Xanana said.
He added that the government would continue coordination efforts to ensure a proper reception for the Australian leader.
Xanana said the purpose and agenda of the visit could not yet be disclosed, as preparations and scheduled activities were still being finalized: “Once everything is finalized, we will inform the public,” he said.
