DILI, 11 March 2026 (TATOLI) — The draft between Indonesia and Timor-Leste has been finalized and is awaiting signing, Indonesian Ambassador Okto Dorinus Manik said, describing the agreement as a key step to strengthen economic ties and attract more investment to Timor-Leste.

Speaking after a farewell meeting with the president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Timor-Leste (CCI-TL) in Dili, Manik said the treaty aims to provide stronger legal protection for investors and enhance confidence in the country’s investment climate.

“One of the initiatives we have been promoting is the Bilateral Investment Treaty between Indonesia and Timor-Leste. The draft has been completed and is now awaiting the appropriate time for signing,” he said.

The ambassador noted that Indonesia is also seeking to strengthen connectivity between the two countries, including improving air and maritime links to support trade and economic activity.

Several Indonesian companies are already operating in Timor-Leste, including Bank Mandiri, Bank Rakyat Indonesia, Pertamina, and Telkomsel, contributing to deeper economic cooperation between the two nations.

Manik said Indonesia’s efforts during his tenure have focused on strengthening economic ties without involving political issues, prioritizing trade, investment and development cooperation.

“Our priority is to promote economic cooperation, trade and investment so that this relationship can bring tangible benefits to the economic development of both countries,” he said.

The ambassador also expressed optimism about Timor-Leste’s economic prospects, particularly as the country prepares to join the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

He noted that the development progress achieved in recent years demonstrates the country’s strong potential for future economic growth.
