Ramos-Horta and Ambassador Vital discuss regional and global challenges

DILI, 19 March 2026 (TATOLI) — Timor-Leste’s President, José Ramos-Horta, on Wednesday received the Special Envoy for the Indo-Pacific, Ambassador Domingos Fezas Vital, at the Nicolau Lobato Presidential Palace in Dili, where they discussed key regional and global challenges.

The high-level discussions centered on pressing regional and global issues, drawing on Ramos-Horta’s extensive historical and contemporary experience.

Climate change and ocean conservation were also discussed during the meeting.

Ambassador Vital stressed that the protection of the oceans is a critical priority shared by all nations in the Indo-Pacific region, making the President’s strategic perspectives on the matter particularly enriching and timely.

Upon concluding his diplomatic visit to Timor-Leste, Ambassador Vital expressed profound gratitude for the opportunity to once again exchange ideas with the President.

Having benefited from the Head of State’s wisdom on several occasions in the past, the Special Envoy highlighted that this renewed dialogue brought him enormous joy and satisfaction, further cementing the strong bonds of cooperation and the shared vision for the future of the region.

Following the audience, Ambassador Vital praised the Head of State, describing him as “one of the great global political figures of our time.”

The Special Envoy said the President’s advice and diplomatic assessments “continue to be exceptionally valued on the international stage,” underscoring the enduring respect for his leadership.
