Govt approves US$60,000 grant to support Western Sahara’s Permanent Mission in Timor-Leste

DILI, 25 March 2026 (TATOLI) — The Government of Timor-Leste, during a Council of Ministers meeting on Wednesday, approved a resolution granting US$60,000 to support the Permanent Mission of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic in the country.

The resolution was presented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Bendito dos Santos Freitas.

According to the government, the funding aims to assist the operational activities of the Sahrawi diplomatic mission while reaffirming Timor-Leste’s longstanding solidarity with the Sahrawi people.

“The main aim of this Government Resolution is to support the activities of the Permanent Mission of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic in Timor-Leste and to demonstrate Timor-Leste’s support for the Sahrawi people, recognising the historical bonds of friendship and the shared struggle for self-determination,” Government said in a statement.

The move reflects the shared historical experience of both nations in their struggles for self-determination and independence.

Timor-Leste has consistently expressed support for the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, maintaining diplomatic ties and advocating for its cause in international forums.
