DILI, 29 April 2026 (TATOLI) — President of the Republic, José Ramos-Horta will travel to Papua New Guinea to attend the Melanesian Oceans Summit 2026.
The summit will be held in Port Moresby from May 11 to 14, 2026, and aims to strengthen marine conservation, sustainability, and regional security.
Ramos-Horta’s state visit to Papua New Guinea and his trip to Australia, where he will travel to Darwin to receive an honorary doctorate from Charles Darwin University on May 14, were approved by the National Parliament with 36 votes in favor, none against, and no abstentions.
Ramos-Horta’s visit to Papua New Guinea follows an invitation from Prime Minister James Marape to attend an Ocean Summit. The president is expected to return to Dili on May 15.
