DILI, 04 May 2026 (TATOLI) — President José Ramos-Horta on Monday met with Jane Williams, Chief Executive Officer of the Timor-Leste Hearts Fund, and representatives from the Pfizer Global Health Fellowship program to discuss a new initiative aimed at strengthening the collection and analysis of cardiac health data in Timor-Leste.

The delegation briefed the president on a collaborative project designed to improve the monitoring of cardiovascular diseases within the national hospital system, with the aim of supporting more targeted treatment and improving patient outcomes.

This initiative is designed to better track cardiovascular diseases, allowing the government and health partners to provide more targeted treatments and improve life-saving interventions for Timorese patients.

During the meeting, the delegation emphasized that high-quality data is essential for the strategic planning and funding of the country’s health infrastructure. By understanding exactly which heart conditions are most prevalent, health authorities can better allocate resources and provide the specific care that communities need.

The project represents a significant step toward modernizing the health sector through international cooperation and a shared commitment to reducing the burden of heart disease in the country.

President Ramos-Horta expressed his enthusiastic support for the initiative, noting that cardiovascular care is a vital component of the nation’s public health strategy and praised the long-standing work of the Timor-Leste Hearts Fund and reiterated the importance of ensuring all citizens have access to quality care.

The President also highlighted the need for increased public awareness regarding heart health and encouraged continued collaboration between international specialists and local medical professionals.
