Timor-Leste, Brunei explore cooperation in fertilizer and agriculture sectors

DILI, 05 May 2026 (TATOLI) — A high-level Timor-Leste delegation visited Brunei Fertilizer Industries (BFI) at Sungai Liang Industrial Park (SPARK) on Monday to explore potential cooperation in fertilizer production, agriculture, industrial development and food security.

The delegation included Vice Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Francisco Kalbuadi Lay, Vice Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Social Affairs Mariano Assanami Sabino, Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Minister Bendito dos Santos Freitas, and Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Francisco da Costa Monteiro.

The Timorese delegation was warmly received by The Honourable Dato Seri Setia Dr. Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II of Brunei Darussalam.

“The visit provided valuable insights into Brunei’s advanced fertilizer production, particularly ammonia and urea, highlighting opportunities for Timor-Leste to explore potential cooperation in fertilizer industries, agriculture, industrial development, and food security,” said in a statement.

The visit also reflected Timor-Leste’s broader commitment to leveraging economic diplomacy to attract investment, promote technology transfer, and build resilient productive sectors.

This engagement underscores the growing partnership between Timor-Leste and Brunei Darussalam in advancing sustainable and mutually beneficial economic cooperation.
