DILI, 12 May 2026 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic, Jose Ramos-Horta met with Micronesia’s Special Envoy, Khadi Elieiser, on Monday, 11 May 2026, on the sidelines of the Melanesian Oceans Summit in Port Moresby.

The discussion centered on bolstering cooperation between island nations regarding climate action and ocean protection.

Both parties emphasized the need for a unified approach to sustainable maritime governance and shared international conservation goals to build resilience against the growing threats of climate change.

The meeting highlighted Timor-Leste’s strategic position as a bridge between the Pacific and Southeast Asia.

As an observer of the Pacific Islands Forum and the 11th member of ASEAN, Timor-Leste aims to foster deeper political and technical articulation between the two regions.

President Ramos-Horta and Envoy Elieiser explored ways to leverage this unique status to drive regional progress and shared development agendas across the maritime corridors.
