DILI, 05 June 2026 (TATOLI) – President of the Republic, Jose Ramos-Horta received Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão today at the Nicolau Lobato Presidential Palace for their regular coordination meeting.
During the briefing, the Prime Minister highlighted the success of his recent diplomatic missions to Singapore and Jakarta, emphasizing Timor-Leste’s growing regional influence.
The Prime Minister informed the Head of State that the Council of Ministers has officially approved the rectificative budget for submission to Parliament, alongside a proposal to ratify the updated ASEAN Charter, marking a significant step toward the nation’s full regional integration.
Addressing domestic security, the Prime Minister noted that while the country remains stable, the Government has decided to extend the suspension of martial arts training until December 31, 2026.
This proactive measure is intended to prevent provocations and ensure a peaceful environment as Timor-Leste prepares for the 2027 Presidential and Municipal elections. Both leaders reflected on the successful, non-violent celebrations of May 20 as evidence of the public’s commitment to national harmony.
The meeting also touched on social progress, specifically the nationwide celebrations for National Children’s Day and the innovative environmental art produced by local students.
The Head of the Government underscored the Presidency’s shared view that a professional media corps is vital to democracy, urging journalists to prioritize deep factual analysis over social media trends to ensure the public remains accurately informed.
