Death toll from Venezuela earthquakes rises to 1,450: Lawmaker Jorge Rodriguez

DILI, 29 June 2026 (TATOLI) – The death toll from the powerful twin earthquakes that struck Venezuela last week has risen to 1,450, with 3,150 people injured, Venezuelan National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez said, according to the Venezuelan News Agency on Sunday.

Rodriguez said the powerful twin earthquakes have left 12,721 people homeless and damaged 774 buildings, including 189 that collapsed completely and 585 that sustained partial damage.

“Meanwhile, 38 hospitals were damaged, but authorities quickly organized repair efforts to restore essential services. In addition, 44 shopping centres and 1,645 other buildings and infrastructure were also damaged,” said the lawmaker Jorge Rodriguez.

Following the earthquakes, he said the Venezuelan government had provided immediate assistance to 73,937 affected families, distributing 7.225 million kilograms of food and 20,000 bags of food, primarily in the state of La Guaira. Authorities have also served 222,147 hot meals to date.

“Furthermore, the congressman reported that 527 people have been transferred to Caracas for treatment in hospitals and clinics; 4,200 people have received medical attention; and more than 7,168 have been triaged at hospitals in La Guaira, Caracas, Valencia, and Maracay, as well as at field hospitals in La Guaira, totaling 12,049 people who have received medical care,” Venezuelan News Agency reported.
