DILI, 02 July 2026 (TATOLI) – Singapore’s Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Lawrence Wong on Thursday arrived Dili to “deepen strategic partnership” with Timor-Leste.
Upon his arrival at Presidente Nicolau Lobato International Airport in Dili at around 4 p.m. local time, Wong was welcomed by President José Ramos-Horta and Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, and then joined the two leaders for a ride in Ramos-Horta’s Mini Moke.
This was the first visit by a Prime Minister of Singapore to Timor-Leste and represented an important milestone in the relationship between the two countries.
The visit reflects the strong friendship between Timor-Leste and Singapore and will provide an important opportunity to further strengthen bilateral cooperation, deepen people-to-people links and advance shared priorities within ASEAN.
Prime Minister Wong will be awarded the Order of Timor-Leste by President Ramos-Horta on Friday in recognition of his contribution to strengthening ties of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
Singapore has been a long-standing and valued partner of Timor-Leste, including through its support for Timor-Leste’s accession to ASEAN and through capacity-building programs for Timorese officials.
The visit comes at an important time, following Timor-Leste’s accession as the 11th Member State of ASEAN and as both countries look to deepen cooperation within the ASEAN community.
