Helping flood victims, EWB-TL presents clean water filters

DILI, 24 june 2021 (TATOLI)–  The Engineers Without Borders Australia in Timor-Leste (EWB-TL) presents clean filters to help victims of the floods that occurred on April 4 this year.

EWB-TL Senior Technical Manager, Lamberto Pinto explained, EWB-TL in collaboration with Bee Timor-Leste (BTL) and other organizations are trying to provide clean water services to the victims affected by natural disaster.

This idea was raised by EWB-TL and it is called sky hydrant water filter is a new innovation that is presented to filter cloudy water to be clean and clear.

“In the disaster a few months ago, EWB contributed to the washing response activity by installing a water filter that can filter cloudy water into clean water. We worked with BTL with our technology product called skyhydrant water filter,” said Lamberto to TATOLI. in Farol, this thursday.

This clean water filter system or skyhydrant water filter is placed in 2 flood-affected areas such as Becora and Lesibutak villages to facilitate flood-affected communities. However, after monitoring and operating for a month, EWB stopped the program because the clean water system provided by the government was running well.

“Based on monitoring for one month and now we have taken it back so all installation materials are taken back,” he said. Lamberto said

The EWB-TL is ready to work with the government to deliver technological innovations that are more efficient and will certainly help people’s work performance.

The innovation of the skyhydrant water filter is one of the ideas of the EWB strategy from 2020 to 2030 to place engineering as an important driver of positive change. “We offer the opportunity for the engineering profession to scale up and manage the technological change needed, from the right community solutions to cutting edge technology, so that the planet, everyone and all living things, thrive,” he explained.

Engineers without Borders Australia (EWB) is a non-profit, member-based organization that was founded in Australia in 2003 to create systemic change through humanitarian engineering.

EWB started its services in Timor-Leste in 2015 improving the abilities of youth, students and students in Engineering and Professional Engineering through Challenge Design activities. More than 500 students and engineering professionals have participated in all EWB-TL programs with 50% female participation.
