NP welcomes the insights of partners for child protection laws

DILI, 15 july 2021 (TATOLI)- The National Parliament  (NP) of Timor-Leste conducted a meeting to hear the ideas from partners to support for children laws in Timor-Leste.

The President of Commission F, Noe Da Silva Ximenes said that National Parliament wish to get some ideas and input for revision on child protection laws from all development Partners.

The National Parliament Timor-Leste, commission F responsibility treated for health, social, disability person and veteran, wishes to hear opinion from all parts to contribute for improvement of child protection laws.

“Today is the last day for the National Parliament held a meeting with development partner to get some input from each parts and the National parliament will take any consideration to improve the child protection law before approve in National parliament.

He added this is most important law to ensure children in this nation can live in the condition that they are deserved for. Thus the law is must adequate with the real life of children in Timor-Leste.

Plan International Country Director in Timor-Lest Dillyana Ximenes gives her views on the children protection law. The child laws must ensure no discrimination for children and adult in this country. Child protection laws must adequate with other laws that able to protect children in normal daily life, even the children in danger situation. Thus the child protection law ensures all children to live free from any forms of violence that harmful for children physical and metal.

Ms. Ximenes added that the revision of child protection laws are not specificity child and adult in different needs and the law must ensure the specific focus on for this subject.

ChildFund in Timor-Leste said that the existence of ChildFund Australia in Timor-Leste work on children and vulnerable community, with propose to reduce poorer people.

“Mostly Child Fund works on nutrition, health, education and youth empowerment program. Child protection a priority program to ensure all children are live free of any forms of violence against the children. Child fund hopes as soon as possible Timor-Leste country will have child protection laws to protect all children,” Said Country Director of ChildFund Timor-Leste,” Country Director of Child Fund Timor-Leste, Irene Dijkstia Said in the meeting, at Hotel Timor, in Colmera, this Wednesday.

The President Commission against Child labor in Timor-Leste, Aniseto Leto said on his insight that Child Protection law must be suitable with the real condition on Timor-Leste’s country. According to research show that 58% of child labor in Timor-Leste due on parents are not having permanent income and raise economy problem in family. This issue encourages children are participating for child labor activity.

The President of Commission F, Noe Da Silva Ximenes said that the aim of this meeting to hear the ideas for children law revision from development Partners.

He considers child protection law is not completed year and National parliament needed more input from all parts to ensure this laws for children are perfect and will be approved soon.

Since that National parliament has welcomed 13 development partners and institution. Today is last day for National parliament and wish to hear more the ideas of 4 more partners composed of ChildFund Timor-Leste, Plan International, Commission of Child Protection and Commission against Child Labor.
