DILI, 21 June 2026 (TATOLI) – Aero Dili, Timor-Leste’s national carrier, today inaugurated its new direct international route between Dili and Darwin, marking a significant milestone in strengthening air connectivity with neighboring Australia.

The new Dili–Darwin route was officially launched in Dili by the President of the Republic, José Ramos-Horta, underscoring Timor-Leste’s commitment to enhancing regional connectivity, tourism, and economic cooperation.

During the launch ceremony, the Head of State expressed his appreciation for Aero Dili as a Timorese-owned airline that carries the flag of Timor-Leste across international skies, serving as a source of pride for the Timorese people. For this reason, the President of the Republic has, from the outset, fully supported the initiatives undertaken by Aero Dili.

President Ramos-Horta also encouraged Aero Dili to continue providing high-quality services and to expand its network by opening more routes, particularly to destinations within the ASEAN region.

The Dili-Darwin route serves as an important bridge to facilitate the movement of people, strengthen partnerships, stimulate economic activity, and attract more tourists to Timor-Leste.

According to the operational plan, the new route will operate twice a week, on Sundays and Tuesdays, with departures scheduled at 8:00 a.m. Timor-Leste time.

Upon arriving at Darwin Airport, the President expressed his gratitude to the authorities of Australia’s Northern Territory for welcoming Aero Dili flights and enabling the Timorese airline to operate in Australia, one of Timor-Leste’s key strategic partners.

This new route is part of Aero Dili’s commitment to keep growing and bringing people closer together.
