DILI, 01 August 2025 (TATOLI) – His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni of Cambodia has received the newly appointed Ambassador of Timor-Leste, Marcos dos Reis da Costa, during a formal ceremony at the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh, today.
Ambassador da Costa presented his letter of credence, officially designating him as Timor-Leste’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Kingdom of Cambodia.
President José Ramos-Horta officially appointed Ambassador da Costa and entrusted him with the responsibility of strengthening diplomatic relations between the two countries.
During the Royal Audience, His Majesty warmly welcomed the ambassador and congratulated him on his appointment. The King also conveyed his warm greetings to President Ramos-Horta and expressed appreciation for his leadership and commitment to global causes.
His Majesty reaffirmed Cambodia’s dedication to strengthening the friendship and cooperative relations between the Kingdom of Cambodia and Timor-Leste, particularly in areas such as education, cultural exchange, agriculture, connectivity, economic cooperation, and people-to-people ties.
His Majesty assured the Ambassador da Costa of the full support of the Royal Government of Cambodia in carrying out his diplomatic mission.
In response, Ambassador da Costa expressed his deep gratitude for the warm reception and pledged to work diligently to enhance the friendship and cooperation between the two countries. He conveyed greetings from President Ramos-Horta and the people of Timor-Leste, and thanked Cambodia for its continued support of Timor-Leste’s bid for full ASEAN membership.
Confident in His Majesty’s wise leadership, Ambassador da Costa affirmed that the bilateral relations and friendship between the two countries will continue to grow and strengthen.
He pledged his commitment to fulfilling his duties with dedication to further enhancing bilateral relations, cooperation and bonds of friendship between Timor-Leste and Cambodia.
The presentation of the letter of credence officially marks the beginning of Ambassador Costa’s diplomatic mission in the Kingdom of Cambodia as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste.
