BEIJING, 13 November 2025 (TATOLI) – China and Spain have committed to strengthening their comprehensive strategic partnership as President Xi Jinping met King Felipe VI of Spain in Beijing on 12 November 2025.

President Xi welcomed the King at the Great Hall of the People and noted that the two countries share “profound historical and cultural heritage.”

He said that over the past five decades, both sides have “always viewed and developed bilateral relations from a strategic height and long-term perspective.”

He added that this approach has “set a model of pursuing amicable ties and common development by countries with different history, culture and social systems.”

Xi said the visit is significant as the two sides celebrate the 20th anniversary of their comprehensive strategic partnership.

President Xi said China is ready to “forge a comprehensive strategic partnership with greater strategic determination, dynamism and global influence.”

He highlighted plans to import more Spanish products and expand cooperation in “new energy, digital economy and AI.”

Xi encouraged both countries to explore third-party markets and deepen cultural and educational exchanges.

China also confirmed it will extend its visa-free policy to Spain as part of efforts to boost tourism and people-to-people ties.

The President emphasized the importance of cooperation at the United Nations as the world enters “a new period of turbulence and transformation.” He said China will work with Spain to support free trade and promote “a community with a shared future for humanity.”

King Felipe VI praised China’s achievements, saying its progress in development, poverty alleviation, and green transition offers “great inspiration.”

He reaffirmed Spain’s commitment to the one-China policy.

The King said he hopes to seize opportunities created by China’s 15th Five-Year Plan and deepen cooperation in “economy and trade, industry, science and technology, and green energy.”

He welcomed China’s decision to extend visa-free entry and said both countries support multilateralism and peaceful dialogue.

After their meeting, the two leaders witnessed the signing of 10 cooperation agreements covering trade, science, technology, and education.
