DILI, 29 May 2025 (TATOLI) – The Government of Timor-Leste has approved a draft decree-law that will introduce public subsidies for both public and private higher education institutions across the country.
The proposal, presented by the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Culture, José Honório da Costa Pereira Jerónimo, aims to strengthen the quality of higher education and ensure the long-term financial sustainability of universities and colleges operating in Timor-Leste.
The new funding framework is designed to support improvements in teaching standards, academic infrastructure, and access to modern technology.
“This grant seeks to encourage the ongoing improvement of teaching, infrastructure, and technological conditions in higher education institutions. The awarding of this grant is contingent upon compliance with stringent quality and institutional performance criteria defined by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Culture,” the Government said in a statement.
