DILI, 26 June 2026 (TATOL) – Timor-Leste’s Minister of Health, Élia A.A. dos Reis Amaral, took part in a high-level strategic meeting of the Alliance for Transformative Action on Climate and Health (ATACH), held in Paris from June 23 to 25 under France’s G7 presidency.

The meeting brought together health ministers, representatives of the World Health Organization (WHO), United Nations agencies, and international partners to strengthen cooperation on addressing the health impacts of climate change.

Discussions focused on improving the climate resilience of health systems, integrating climate data into early warning systems, protecting vulnerable populations from extreme heat and flooding, developing sustainable health infrastructure, and mobilising additional financing to support climate action in the health sector.

The session was attended by health ministers from France, Senegal, Paraguay, Côte d’Ivoire, Bangladesh, the Philippines, the Netherlands, Zimbabwe, the Maldives, Spain, and Timor-Leste, along with senior representatives from the WHO, the United Nations, and technical partners.

In a joint statement, participants reaffirmed that climate change represents one of the most significant threats to global public health. They pledged to accelerate efforts to build resilient and sustainable health systems, strengthen international cooperation through ATACH, and increase funding to protect populations from climate-related health risks.

ATACH is a World Health Organization-led initiative bringing together more than 100 countries and partner organisations. It aims to support the transformation of health systems into climate-resilient and low-carbon structures while integrating health priorities into national climate policies.
