DILI, 18 october 2022 ( TATOLI)– The President Republic of Timor-Leste, José Ramos-Horta, will assume a State Visit to Cambodia from 19 to 21 October 2022 following the invitation from His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath NORODOM SIHAMONI, the King of Cambodia.
The statement seen by Tatoli stated that this visit will be the second State Visit of President Horta to the Kingdom of Cambodia, to strengthen the relationship ties between the two countries.
“Cambodia and Timor-Leste enjoy cordial and friendly relations. As the current Chair of ASEAN, Cambodia has been a steadfast advocate for Timor-Leste’s membership of ASEAN. The visit will be an opportunity to strengthen the partnership and friendship between our nations and explore ways for further cooperation on economic development, food security, aviation connectivity, trade exchanges, experience sharing on the petroleum sector, and regional initiatives, among others”
During the trip, President Horta was set to have a meeting with His Majesty the King, Prime Minister Hun Sen, courtesy calls on the President of the Senate and the President of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia.
Horta will also speak at three universities where His Excellency will be awarded an “Honorary Doctorate Degree in Educational Administration and Leadership” and an “Honorary Distinguished Professor of International Relations”.
Accompanying Timorese private sector representatives will meet the Cambodian business community and take part in a Business Forum organized by Timor-Leste’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation and its Embassy to the Kingdom of Cambodia in partnership with the Cambodian Chamber of Commerce and Trade Invest Timor-Leste.
President Ramos-Horta will return to Timor-Leste on 23 October 2022.
So far, Horta’s first State Visit to Cambodia was conducted in 2011 his mandate as the President of the Republic in 2007-2012. Since then, there have been more frequent exchanges of high-level visits between the two countries including the Official Visit to Cambodia in 2013 by Kay Rala Xanana Gusmao who was then the Prime Minister, and the Official Visit to Timor-Leste in 2016 by Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia.
Most recently, the working visits to Cambodia in 2019 of both President Ramos Horta and the Former President and former Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmao. The President of the Republic met Prime Minister Hun Sen on the sidelines of the 77th UNGA in September 2022.\
