HANOI, 09 June 2026 (TATOLI) – Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão visited the National Assembly of Vietnam on Tuesday, where he held a meeting with National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man to discuss ways to further strengthen relations between Timor-Leste and Vietnam.

The meeting formed part of the Prime Minister’s official visit to Vietnam and provided an opportunity for both sides to exchange views on bilateral cooperation, regional integration, and the growing partnership between the two countries.

Prime Minister Xanana expressed his appreciation for Vietnam’s continued friendship and support for Timor-Leste, particularly throughout the country’s journey toward ASEAN membership.

He emphasized the importance of maintaining close cooperation with regional partners and learning from their experiences in governance, economic development, and institutional strengthening.

During the discussions, the two leaders highlighted the value of parliamentary diplomacy in fostering mutual understanding and supporting government-to-government cooperation. They also explored opportunities to encourage greater exchanges between legislative institutions, including the sharing of knowledge and best practices in lawmaking, public administration, and national development.

The Prime Minister noted that Timor-Leste is committed to building strong institutions capable of supporting the country’s long-term development goals and welcomed opportunities to deepen engagement with Vietnam in areas that contribute to capacity-building and human resource development.

For his part, Chairman Tran Thanh Man reaffirmed Vietnam’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Timor-Leste and expressed confidence that relations between the two countries would continue to expand across a wide range of sectors.

The meeting also touched on regional issues and the importance of cooperation within ASEAN to promote stability, economic growth, and prosperity for the people of Southeast Asia.

Prime Minister Xanana’s visit to the National Assembly reflects the growing political ties between Timor-Leste and Vietnam and both sides’ shared commitment to advancing cooperation for the benefit of their nations and peoples.
