DILI, 13 May 2026 (TATOLI) – Vanuatu’s Prime Minister Jotham Napat has extended an invitation to President of the Republic José Ramos-Horta to visit Vanuatu and attend the country’s 46th Independence Anniversary celebrations this year.
The invitation was extended during a bilateral meeting with President Ramos-Horta on the margin of the Melanesian Oceans Summit held in Port Moresby on May 12, 2026.
Vanuatu Independence Day is celebrated annually on July 30th to mark the nation’s freedom from joint British and French colonial rule on July 30, 1980.
During the meeting, the two leaders held warm and cordial discussions, reaffirming the strong bonds of friendship and solidarity between Vanuatu and Timor-Leste as fellow Small Island Developing States.
Prime Minister Napat thanked President Ramos-Horta for Timor-Leste’s continued friendship and for its leadership on regional and global issues affecting island nations.
