DILI, 25 July 2025 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic, J. Ramos-Horta, warmly welcomed the athletes and delegates participating in the XII Games of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP) during a confraternization dinner held in Dili.
In his remarks, the Head of State celebrated the deep ties that unite the Lusophone countries and highlighted the unique spirit of the Timorese people, marked by resilience, creativity in improvisation, and good humor. He also underscored the warm hospitality that characterizes Timor-Leste, evident in the way the country welcomes its guests.
Horta expressed his pride in the ability demonstrated by Timor-Leste in organizing large-scale events. The president cited, as an example, the visit of Pope Francis, whose logistics involved more than 700,000 people and proceeded without any failures in security, sanitation, or public support services. This experience, he stated, demonstrates the competence of national institutions and the dedication of the Timorese people.
Looking to the future, the Head of State reiterated the strategic vision of positioning Timor-Leste as a bridge between the CPLP and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), of which the country will become a full member later this year. He advocated for strengthening ties between these two regions, anticipating the holding of joint ministerial meetings as a platform to deepen multilateral cooperation.
In conclusion, the President thanked the delegations for their presence, stating that Timor-Leste is, for many athletes, a second home. He emphasized that this fellowship contributes to strengthening friendship and solidarity among the peoples of the Lusophone world and beyond.
