DILI, 08 May 2026 (TATOLI) – Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão and his delegation have arrived in Cebu, Philippines, to attend the 48th ASEAN Summit and related meetings.
The summit, led by ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn, is being held from May 6 to 8, 2026, under the theme “Navigating Our Future, Together.”
In addition to the summit, a series of ministerial meetings were held over the three-day event, including the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM), the 31st ASEAN Political-Security Community (APSC) Council Meeting, the 38th ASEAN Coordinating Council (ACC) Meeting, and the ASEAN Joint Foreign and Economic Ministers’ Meeting.
Upon his arrival, Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão joined a meeting with ASEAN leaders ahead of the summit, including Vietnamese Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng, Philippine President Bongbong Marcos, Chair of ASEAN 2026, Brunei Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet.
The summit discussions will centre on energy resilience and food security amid ongoing tensions in West Asia.
Cebu is a key island province in the central Philippines, located in the Visayas region, and is widely known as the “Queen City of the South” as well as a major centre for business and tourism.
